Players Journal - Diego Armando Maradona

Diego Armando Maradona was born in Octorber 30, 1960 in Lanus, Buenos Aires. He is an Argentine ex-football player and also the manager of the Argentine national team. He is broadly regarded to all as one of the best football players of all time.

Of his professional club career Maradona played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla and Newell's Old Boys and setting world record contract fees. In his international career to play for Argentina earned 91 caps and scored 34 goals and he played in four FIFA World Cup tournaments. The 1986 World Cup, he captained Argentina and let them to their victory over West Germany in the final and winning the Golden Ball award while the tournament's best player. In the same tournament's quarter final round, he scored over England two goals in a 2-1 victory which entered football history. The first goal was an unpenalized handball which one known as the "Hand of God". When the second goal was a stunning 60 meter interlace through out six England players.

Maradona was considered one of the sport's most contentious and remarkable figures and also suspended from football for 15 months in 1991 after failing a doping test for cocaine in Italy. After that he was sent home from the 1994 World Cup in the USA for using ephedrine.

On his 37th birthday in 1997 and after retiring from playing, he gradually more suffered ill health and weight put on and hardly helped by constant cocaine cruelly. His weight put on was control by stomach stapling operation in 2005. After controlling day by day his cocaine addiction, he became a popular TV host in Argentina.
